Star basketball cards occupy a unique and complicated corner of the hobby. The company held the exclusive NBA license from 1983 to 1986, producing the only licensed cards of Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon, and other legends during their actual rookie seasons. That makes them historically significant — and also a minefield for buyers who don’t know what to look for.
