From a reader: Can you help authenticate these Babe Ruth cards?
These are all common Babe Ruth fakes, and it was pretty quick for me to identify via your photos.
First off, the borders one nearly all the cards are cut close, which could of course have happened with real copies, but it's a red flag.
Second, the quality and the colors on the cards are way off. The print, for example, on the Green Goudey Ruth is too dark, and the green background is too dark compared to the original.
Lastly, and typically, the easiest telltale sign of these fakes is the bright whiteness on the card's borders. Let's not forget these cards are nearly 100 years old. While perfectly white borders are possible, the likelihood is that the original whites of the card will have some tints of age.
