A few months back I wrote about the 1913 National Game set — one of the most underappreciated pre-war issues in the hobby. If you missed it, here’s the piece: The Hidden Gems of 1913: National Game vs. Tom Barker. I’m writing today because I have nine of them available, and I wanted to give subscribers first crack before they go up for sale to the general public. These came out of a New England collection — discovered during a home renovation — and just came back from SGC. The cards present beautifully across the board. Chief Bender — SGC 7 (NM) — $275 A terrific action shot of Bender in full pitching motion, Philadelphia Athletics uniform. At SGC 7 this is one of the finest examples of this card you’ll find — exceptional centering and clean white borders. Outstanding value at this grade.

Rube Marquard — SGC 5 (EX) — $175 Marquard in his NY Giants pinstripes, mid-windup, with a packed grandstand of straw-hatted fans visible behind him. One of the most visually striking cards in the group.
Joe Tinker — SGC 4 (VG-EX) — $185 Shown with Cincinnati — a nice detail for collectors who know the Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance story, as this card captures him after his departure from the Cubs. Dynamic fielding pose, strong eye appeal for the grade.
Johnny Evers — SGC 5 (EX) — $175 Evers listed with Chicago Nationals, standing with bat shouldered in front of a full ballpark. Clean, well-centered card. Own Tinker and Evers together and you’ve got two-thirds of the most famous double play combination in baseball history.

Fred Clarke — SGC 7 (NM) — $250 A tight portrait of Clarke in his Pittsburgh uniform — one of the most handsome images in the entire set. At SGC 7 the surface quality is exceptional, the image sharp and full of detail. Clarke managed the Pirates to a World Series title and is underrated as a collector target.

Sam Crawford — SGC 4.5 (VG-EX+) — $275 Crawford in a classic batting pose, Detroit “D” cap, bat resting on his shoulder. Strong image quality and solid eye appeal. The all-time triples leader and a cornerstone of those great Tigers teams alongside Ty Cobb.
John McGraw — SGC 3 (VG) — $110 McGraw shown in NY Giants pinstripes, bat in hand — the manager posing as a player, which is a fun historical quirk. Shows honest wear consistent with the grade, but the image remains clear and readable. The most affordable entry point in this group for a true Deadball legend.
